Tour Overview:
Your tour is a relaxing day divided into morning & afternoon sessions. The day begins easy with us picking you up from up from your accommodation and transporting you through time on a journey of discovery to retrace the steps of the early pioneers and compare their toils to the miners of today!

The morning activities :

• Travel the famous Black Opal Fields and try your luck noodling for opal!
• Journey underground and see how the miners do it!
• Stop by the 3 Mile open-cut mine and hear the story of our "Ridges"!
• See inside Fred Bodel's Camp - on of the oldest remaining treasures of our past!
• Experience the Black Queen on the road to Bankrupt Miners Avenue, it is truly one of those magical places you stumble onto once in a lifetime!
• Experience a hands-on Opal Cutting & Polishing demonstration!
• View & admire a private collection of Black & Crystal Opal over a cuppa at morning tea.
• Observe the Camps & Camp Dweller's lifestyles and lots more.........!

The afternoon activities :

• Travel to the famous Grawin Opal Fields. These fields are located 70 kilometres from Lightning Ridge and offer something different to what you will see in Lightning Ridge.
• LUNCH at a the Gengarry Hilton Hotel.Enjoy the warmth & hospitality of the Glengarry Hilton. Built right in the middle of the mining field, this watering hole offers respite from the harsh conditions that often present the locals & wildlife alike.
• As we tour through the main opal fields of Grawin, Glengarry and Sheep Yard you will be amazed at the resilience of the opal miners, their lifestyles and friendships that that endure these characters...
• Compare the difference between the 'Nobby' opal mining of Lightning Ridge and the 'Seam' opal mining of this area. Two worlds apart... so close together!
